Who We Are:

Alpha Ministries, "Church in the Woods" is a recovery minded church comprised of people who understand their own worth as persons in Christ, and are, therefore able to actually care about the needs of others in a variety of ways.

If you don't feel free, and are confused, and trying hard to be sure that God loves you and blesses you, Alpha Ministries is for you. Alpha Ministries will help you to enjoy the rest and peace that Jesus promised when he told us to take his yoke and rest.

We are dedicated to teaching the gospel of grace and practicing the "critical event" of loving one another like Christ. As we learn who God has made us to be in Christ we are set free to care about others in our homes, on the job, and in the community.

Our New Pastor

About Tom Benbow

Tom Benbow assumed the pastorship of Alpha Ministries and Church-In-The-Woods in June of 2024 after the passing of John Glenn. Prior to that time, he was active in these ministries as a teacher, board member, associate pastor and resident of Freedom Ranch in Okeechobee. His association with Alpha Ministries and John Glenn goes back for decades.

Tom did not attend bible college. Rather, he earned a degree in pharmacy from Mercer
University in 1981 and practiced pharmacy for 40 years in Okeechobee before purchasing and managing a manufacturing company with his brother and cousin. To date, he is still involved with this venture. His bible knowledge and teaching gifts came as a result of a lifetime of study and as a volunteer teacher focused on the recovery community. John Glenn played a major role in Tom’s life and training; as pastor, mentor and friend.

Tom is an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys fishing, hunting, and horsemanship. He has been married to his wife Verna for 47 years and they have two adult children; JT and Meagan (Trent). All of whom live and work in Okeechobee. They have 3 grandchildren, Robert and Axel (Trent’s
boys) and Miss Avery.
